☣We know therapy out here can be quite an expensive affair. With the myth that therapy ni ya wadosi tu,watu wako na hela/ rich people problems.Other than that we have had experiences where queer people attend therapy sessions and unfortunately the therapist starts running a conversion therapy on them and diverts from the issue that brought them there.

🌕 There is also always the question "What do I do in therapy?" A simple answer to this is "just talk" but also talking is not really an easy thing to do for some of us.

🦋Therapy on its own is a beautiful thing. They have been many success stories from people who have been in therapy with people learning how to communicate better, working through the traumas, mending relationships, loving themselves etc.

🪐One thing to note about therapy is that you need to BE WILLING AND OPEN TO IT. If that's not the case you will keep moving from one therapist to the next looking for answers/help.

💛If you would like to talk to a therapist do Dm us or text or call 0745162506

Here are some reasons you need to think about going to therapy;

"Why do doctors ask women to seek permission from their husbands before fallopian tubes are permanently tied?"
"Why do they sterilise us without our consent?"

Every year we have women and those assigned female at birth at risk of death due to complication from unsafe abortions and lacking access to modern contraceptions. All these stemming from deeply engrained beliefs and societal values pertaining to women and afab person 's sexuality and their role in family and society. This leads to violation of the sexual and reproductive health of our women and afab persons. And it gets worse when you are disabled thus affecting intersectional programing on the grassroot level.

And that's why as organizations catering to women and afab persons we need to put more emphasis in cascading information on Sexual Health Reproductive Rights to our community members. Find ways to offer SRH services in a way that is safe and affirming to our community members as the more choices and information we have, the healthier our community will be.

🌼You will be surprised how important a good sleep schedule is. A good sleep schedule is medicinal.
🙂Healthy sleep improves your immunity, improves your concentration, problem-solving skills and productivity. You will generally be in a good mood throughout the day.
😴Lack of enough sleep on the other hand will have you irritable, cursing at everyone, feeling way hungrier than usual and not being able to concentrate on anything.
🦋 As you take care of your physical health, mental health and spiritual health do remember that a good sleep schedule is what ties all this together.

DIGITAL SECURITY AND PROTECTION TRAINING

Rapid technological developments have provided great areas for new opportunity and potential sources for efficiency for organizations and individuals but they have also brought unprecedented threats from which we need to attain effective cyber security level.

The training will provide a learning platform for the LEHA LBQ-GNC peer educators, paralegals and staff to be more conversant on how to maintain safety, security and protection when they are in the digital space and also develop an election security preparedness plan for the organization.

"Remove laws that harm, create laws that empower"

Some of the laws that we have that discriminate against the SOGIE community is the penal codes 162 and 165.

Section 162 (a) and (c) of the penal code says that it is a felony for any person to have 'carnal knowledgeof any other person against the order of nature' or to permit 'a male person to have carnal knowledge of him or her against the order of nature' This is punishable by 14yrs imprisonment.

Section 165 states that it is a felony for a male person to commit "any act of gross indecency with another male person" whether in public or in private. This is punishable by 5yrs imprisonment.

These penal codes have been used to target SOGIE persons and perpetrate violence against the community.#theissueisviolence #zerodiscrimination

TRIGGER ⚠️ TRIGGER⚠

Google describes violence as "the intentional use of physical force or power against oneself, another person,or against a group of people which may result in injury, death, psychological harm, maldevelopment or depriviation"

But when we commonly think about violence only in physical terms and that there has to be scars and injuries as evidence of violence taking place forgetting that violence also shows up in the "small" threats that your partner tells you "ukikuja late kesho utalala nje" or that online friend who always dms you threatening to expose your sexuality to your followers. We need to understand that violence is diverse and that it can also show itself through psychological traumas.

Above is LEHA data on the types of violence we recorded during the month of Oct-Dec. It is also shows which group of people were more vulnerable.

If you feel you might be experiencing violence or stuck in such a situation,do dm us and we will connect you with our paralegals who can assist you on the way forward. You could also call/text 0745162506.

🔸May being Mental Health Awareness Month we will start it off with talking about Narcissism. We all have had narcissist in our lives or we are the narcissist. Common phrases you may have heard from narcissist is "it is not my fault you made me do it" "you are so jealous and insecure" "you have trust issues" "all my exes are crazy"

🔹Here is a simple overview of what narcissim is and some of the traits you can look out for in a narcissist.

What has been your experience with a narcissist?

Well, worry not, tuko hapa tuexplain it for yall. Hii kwanza ifikie watu wamezoea kutuma unsolicited sexual texts and nudes kwa whatsapp groups. Learn to ask people before sending them anything that you know may make them uncomfortable. Na pia no one owes you any nudes, hii sense ya entitlement tuwaache!

We have all in one way or the other experienced the ostracization that happens in high school once there is the implication that you might be a lesbian or gay or queer. And some of these conclusions are drawn from the idea of how you dress or walk or even how your hair is shaved, and these accusation may not have any factual backing. Fellow students come at you wanting to pray the queerness out of you while teachers might pick at you connecting your lack of performance to your sexuality.

This results to years of trauma where you find that it becomes difficult for queers to form any form of relationships or even find it hard to express themselves in places of work as they feel like their sexuality will be held against them.

This is why we should come together and sign this petition to get audience with the Ministry of Education and see how we can create a safer environment for our LGBTIQ+ learners and not steal from their future by denying them to access education in schools of their choice.

The theme on this #Internationalwomensday2022 is #breakthebias. This theme seeks to create a world that is diverse, inclusive and free of discrimination.

So how have we as an organisation been working and or advocating against biases that show up in our community?
-Last year we held a very controversial debate that was seeking to demistify myths associated with masculinity and femininity in our society that have been enabling patriachal systems leading to violence in the community.
-By holding community dialogues which create a safe space for our women to comfortably express themeselves and offer support to each other.
-Through our social media we have been posting information that seeks to educate our peers on various discriminatory practices and steps to take when faced by some of these practices. We also offer legal advice on the same.
-We offer free therapy sessions and support to combat the effects of these discriminatory practices and human rights abuses towards our women.

🔸Our attachment styles are mostly shaped in our childhood through the infant and caregiver relationship though other intervening experiences in between infancy and adulthood may change the type of attachment style.

🔹It is common to hear some of your friends say "Mimi huwaacha wakishaanza kupata mafeelings" Or you have a partner(s) who when you decide to take a nap you wake up to a lot of texts asking if you love them all because you were not able to reply to their texts on time. These type of behaviours is what we call attachment styles.

🟪There are three types; avoidant, anxious and the stable one, secure attachment style.

🦋Some of us learn of our 'toxic' attachment styles through painful experience zenye kwa streets we call character development. But being aware of your attachment style allows you to get to work on yourself and adopt a secure attachment style. Also it allows you to show kindness to those strugling with creating healthy relationships romantically or platonically.
